Jim's Photo Lab is now able to produce Giclee prints from you original artwork.  A Giclee print is an absolute reproduction of your artwork on watercolor or canvas.  Often indistinguishable from the original, a Giclee print is created by taking your original artwork, digitizing (it doesn't hurt) your painting, drawing, pastel, watercolor - any two dimensional artwork - and bringing it into our computer(s).  There your artwork becomes billions and billions of pixels and we begin the magic.  Any minor imperfections are removed, color is adjusted and tweaked, the final print size is established and we make the first artist proof.  If additional corrections or changes are needed, we do them at this time.  When the artist approves the proof, we can immediately begin printing your limited edition Giclee series and they are ready for you to sell.

The advantages of Giclee over the more traditional offset are numerous.  With offset, you print thousands of prints in one run and your printer hands you a thick stack of paper.  You have invested thousands and thousands of dollars and now you have to hope that people buy them.  With Giclee, you can create a much more valuable limited edition of 25, 50, 125, 1000 or any number you choose.  The Giclee prints from Jim's Photo Lab are much more realistic and "painted" looking and can therefore sell for a higher price.  Also with the Giclee process, you can order as few as one print at a time, so you are purchasing your prints as you sell them.  You don't have huge out of pocket expenses up front!

It's a bit tough to show how wonderful and real a Giclee print is using the internet.  Come in to Jim's Photo Lab today and ask to see samples of local artist's work and we will explain the process in more detail.

Giclee Pricing:
Unlike many Giclee printers, Jim's Photo Lab uses rolls of paper (or canvas) rather than sheets.  This makes for much more cost effective paper purchasing, but it makes it a bit difficult to create a price list.  The following is just a guide, with instructions and three samples.

Step one is the set up and creation fee.  If your original artwork is less than 11 by 17 inches, the set up and creation fee is $95.00.  If your original is larger than 11x17 and smaller than 4 feet by 6 feet, the set up and creation fee is $145.00.  Larger paintings will be quoted on request.

Now the confusing part:  Determine what size final prints you want, then figure out how many would fit across on a 35 1/2 inch wide page.  Three prints 11 x whatever (3x11=33) or two prints 17 x whatever (17x2=34) or only one print 18x whatever.  Now multiply the whatever, in inches, by 36.  This is your page size; here's the formula:
Whatever x 36 divided by 144 to determine number of square feet.  We charge $20.00 per square foot for the first 5 pages and $15.00 per square foot for pages 6 and beyond.  Keep in mind that you are ordering 3 at a time for 11 x any size and 2 at a time for 17 x any size.  Here's three examples - or - just call or come by Jim's Photo Lab for an exact quote:

Example one - You have a 14x16 inch original, and you want 14x16 inch Giclees:
Set up and creation fee - $145.00
Two up printing, 16" wide by 14" high = 14 x 36 / 144 = 3.5 ft2 x $20.00 = $70.00 per pair for the first five pairs, $52.50 for additional pairs.

Example two - You have a 20x30 inch original and you want 24x36 inch Giclees:
Set up and creation fee - $145.00
One up printing, 36" wide by 24" high = 24 x 36 / 144 = 6.0 ft2 x $20.00 = $120.00 for the first five prints, and $90.00 for additional prints.

Example three - You have an 8x10 inch original, and you want 11x14 inch Giclees:
Set up and creation fee - $95.00
Three up printing, 11" wide by 14" high = 14 x 36 / 144 = 3.5 ft2 x $20.00 = $70.00 per 3 for the first five sets, $52.50 for additional sets.

Another example - A gentleman came in and wanted 5x25 inch prints.  Those went seven across, and 25 inches high.  25 x 36 / 144 = 6.25 ft2 x $20.00 = $125.00.
